Something Old, Something New
Does debt count as something borrowed? Depresison is kinda blue, right?
I'm switching it up a bit this week by looking to a past project as I finish putting interviews together for a few essays(one of which is delayed indefintlely because in the very final moments of production, my guest flaked.) You gotta love people, at least that’s what I’m told !
Instead, I’ll be revisiting one of my favorite projects in recent months; my interview with Chef Kaitlyn Wong of A Balcony in Brooklyn. Kaitlyn was gracious enough to let me into her Saturday routine and we talked career plans, FKA Twigs, and her love of dark fiction. Take a few minutes to get to know Kaitlyn with our interview below and while you’re at it, subscribe to her newsletter for flavorful recipes that are time/cost friendly:
Frankie’s large personality is done a disservice by her 10 pound frame. A proud Mexican native, she is never more than arm’s distance away, making her massive presence known throughout our conversation. Frankie insists that she’s the real star: Her ears perk up after a tail wag to let me know she’s ready for her closeup. The most adorable Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua mix you can imagine.
Just a block away from Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York, the reflection of winter sunlight beams off alabaster tile walls in a studio apartment’s kitchen. Atop a tiny oven, there’s a stainless steel french press sharing the ranges with a teapot and a small pot used for reheating soups. There’s always Kimchi inside the fridge to the right of an elaborately organized 5 tier metal rack that is placed so close in proximity to each other it makes my palms sweat. On the second to last rack is where the majority of the larger items are placed, wooden bowls and various kitchen aid attachments.”

Music is the fuel to my fire. Sometimes a day starts with from the ambient sounds of Miles Davis before ending brash chords belted out by Eddie Hazel. From Metro Boomin to Ceila Cruz and everything in between. I love using music as a way to connect with people. The new jam is always a few songs away. Each month (first week) I’ll be dropping the soundtrack for that month. I encourage you listen to the playlist in order, but feel free to cherry-pick to your liking.

I ran into these cows on an exploration trip a few weeks ago. MY. FUCKING. HEART. I LOVE COWS.
